인간은 오래전부터 하늘에 닿으려는 욕망을 품어왔습니다. 성경 속 한 건물의 이야기는 그 욕망이 얼마나 오래되고도 끝내 미완으로 남을 수밖에 없는지를 시사합니다. 오늘날에도 우리는 비슷한 풍경을 마주합니다. 방치된 건축물들, 녹슨 철근과 드러난 콘크리트, 채워지지 못한 창문과 기둥들, 그것들은 멈춘 시간이자, 완성되지 못한 꿈의 흔적입니다.
이 작업은 그런 폐허 위에 AI를 통해 돌을 쌓는 행위를 시도합니다. 인간의 손이 아닌 인공지능의 계산으로 쌓인 돌탑은, 육체적 노동이 결여된 시대의 대리적 구축을 상징합니다. 그 돌탑들은 한편으로는 무의미한 반복처럼 보이지만,그 무의미함 속에는 여전히 하늘에 닿고자 하는 인간의 욕망이 남아 있습니다. AI는 여기서 단순한 도구가 아니라, 더 이상 스스로 쌓지 않는 인간의 욕망을 대신 수행하는 현대의 거울입니다.
하늘에 의해 실패한 인간이, 이제는 기술을 통해 다시 하늘에 기도하는 모습이 이 작업의 본질적인 풍경입니다. 결국 이 돌탑은 육체적 노동의 부재를 드러내는 동시에, 그 부재를 통해서만 오늘날의 인간 존재가 드러나는 역설적인 기도문입니다. 무너지고 다시 쌓이는 과정은 여전히 반복되며, 그 반복 속에서 인간은 하이데거가 말한 ‘건축함’, 즉 세계 속에 머물며 존재를 증명하려는 행위로 되돌아갑니다.

Since ancient times, humanity has harbored a longing to reach the heavens. The story of a certain tower in the Bible reveals how enduring that desire is—and how it remains forever unfinished. Even today, we encounter similar landscapes: abandoned structures, rusted rebar, exposed concrete, unfilled windows and pillars. They are suspended moments in time, traces of dreams left incomplete.
This work attempts to build stone towers upon such ruins through the calculations of AI rather than the hands of humans. These AI-constructed towers symbolize a surrogate form of construction in an era deprived of physical labor. They may appear as meaningless repetitions, yet within that very futility lies the enduring human desire to reach the sky. Here, AI is not merely a tool but a mirror of modern humanity—performing, in our place, the longing we can no longer fulfill ourselves.
The image of humankind, once failed by the heavens, now praying again through technology, forms the essential landscape of this work. The stone towers reveal the absence of physical labor, yet through that absence, the paradoxical nature of human existence today is exposed. The process of collapsing and rebuilding continues endlessly, and within that repetition, humanity returns to what Heidegger called “building”—
